After 31 years of pursuing VABI’s mission to enrich the quality of life for every resident of our community by nurturing and developing enhancement projects throughout the greater Venice area, perhaps its best to identify this organization by the many colors worn by its volunteers.

VABI is like a tree in its operating structure. Branches of the tree include: Venice In Bloom (also known as the Bloom Team, this group of
lime green shirtedvolunteers weed, replace flowers in pots and baskets, and groom the downtown public avenues), Keep Venice Beautiful (a cadre of volunteers in neon yellow shirts who weed,  mulch, plant, and otherwise spiff up our public parks and beach access areas), Monty Andrews Arboretum Crew (bright orange tops  for the cadre of volunteers who work in the city’s Arboretum at West Blalock Park), and Urban Foresters (a group of volunteers in light aqua shirts who labor every Saturday in the Urban Forest).

Past significant projects that VABI has completed in partnership with local governments and donating entities are: the Venetian Waterway Park (a 10-mile linear park along both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway), Downtown Beautification with the addition of Hanging Baskets, large pots, and landscaped areas, and restoration of many public areas like beach access points and other public parks in the Venice area.  The VABI Public Art Committee is another initiative beautifying our community with the many murals VABI has created downtown. The latest major project undertaken by VABI is installing an Urban Forest on the 1.75-mile railway corridor that lies east of the Venetian Waterway Park and west of the Industrial corridor on the mainland. This project is still underway and projected to be completed by early 2024.

So, the next time you see a bright color shirted volunteer in the median, in the arboretum, or any other public area its VABI AT WORK!
